This is a selection of photos from the first two sessions with my new outfit (here). TThe film seems to display excessive grain. For this one, I tried Fuji's develop and scan to CD service (no prints). Just to make sure the graininess of the film is inherent, and not due to the processing, the next roll will be developed and printed normally, by someone else, and I'll scan my own prints. I'd really like a film scanner, but even a "cheap" one is way beyond my means.

Fuji's publicity for the film - Superia - suggests that grain shouldn't be a problem - it seems to be either a fault in the processing, or the scanning - I suspect even the hi-res versions are too lo-res (update - this turned out to be the case).

These first few where taken at Storeton Woods, in Wirral. The weather was gloomy, to say the least...

This is the approach to the Butterfly Glade...

Ferns...

Er, trees...

This next batch is from Roodee Mere, Royden Park, Wirral. Again, a gloomy day. Same camera and film, 70-230mm lens. I got some excellent flowering rhododendron shots, and managed to get most out of focus - I discovered that wearing Varifocal glasses messed up the manual focus (later, wearing single-focus specs solved the problem).

Ducklings are designed to blend into the background...

Mallard drakes in post-breeding summer garb... You can see how horrible conditions were, the water reflects the leaden sky perfectly.

This would have been great with a bit of sun... Oh well. Getting decent pics was tricky, as there were maggot-drowners here and there (anglers!).

And I like photos that are just pure texture, like these two - close-ups of tree bark.
